Today we appeared in Rowan County Circuit on behalf of residents of Justice 4 North Fork. City officials in Morehead passed an ordinance giving a private developer $10 million in subsidies for retail space — knowing it would displace the people who lived there. We sued.

High school student Faith Plank of Morehead, Kentucky, says tenants need protection from eviction and urges lawmakers to act. "In March, my entire neighborhood was evicted to make room for a shopping center. I feel the pain of that eviction to this day."

In March 2020, we could have cancelled rent and paid people to stay home. Instead, we forced people to go to work so they could make rent. The cost was human life. In January 2022, we could cancel rent and pay people to stay home. By now, we know the cost if we don’t.
