Keep seeing posts about immigrants who are surgeons or highly qualified consultants in our NHS etc, & how great they are. Of course they are & I know these are well intentioned. But immigrants shouldn’t need to be brain surgeons to be a valued and treated with basic humanity.

When I went to Glasgow last week @rpzquinton kindly showed me a very poignant object in Glasgow Museums’ collection which I can’t stop thinking about. It’s a tiny pocket embroidered in hair by Margaret Deas in Glasgow’s Duke Street Prison in 1851. She embroidered “forGet Me not”

This piece and a few others really similar to it are interesting because they combine very English elements with very Italian ones. The combo seems to be more than just an English person influenced by Italian pattern books. Many questions here about where it was made and by who

I hear people criticise the NHS a lot but I’m currently having health issues and everyone I’ve dealt with from GP to hospital has been so helpful and kind.

This 17th-century panel from our archive, laden with metal threads, is stupendous. It glimmers in the light, aided by gold spangles sewn onto its silk ground. When it comes to this panel, all that glitters IS gold! ✹

My girlfriend knows I'm a SciFi fan and she recently discussed dressing up, suggesting, obviously, the Princess Leia slave outfit. Now, I'm not unreceptive, but I'd rather she wore Colin Baker's multi-coloured sixth Doctor's coat—though I'm not sure if I should tell her.

And the Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) Scotland Act is now in force across the country, bringing to an end the harrasement of patients and staff. A huge thank you once again to everyone who has campaigned for this or shared your story, we wouldn't be here without you.
