On behalf of UCFL @ucflangs.bsky.social and as a passionate advocate for the teaching and learning of languages, cultures and societies at HE level, I implore University of Aberdeen to find an alternative solution. The languages community are happy to help.

We are very sorry to bring you the sad news that our colleague, Emerita Professor Margaret Atack, died this week. Margaret was renowned in the UK and internationally as a major scholar in French Studies.

This policy is pig-headed and wrong. All the evidence shows that international students enrich our country and economy. We are all impoverished by this, which makes the UK a still less welcoming place for precisely the skilled and ambitious people we need.

Commenting in a personal capacity. It is not merely 'tragic'. It is GROTESQUE. When we reach this point, the system has rotted beyond the well-known unresolved structural flaws in HE politics and financing. 1/7

The reason 'people were having more babies' before 1911 was because modern contraception hadn't been invented and abortion was illegal. Maternal mortality was 26x higher than today and 10% of babies died at or soon after birth. It's a cautionary tale, not an aspiration.

It's a good day to be in Leeds. Celebrating the city's anti fascist heritage & raising the profile of the Battle of Holbeck Moor - 30,000 people turned out to tell Oswald Mosley to shift off & a good they did too
