I recently participated in a Sherman Theatre / Theatr y Sherman project to write a love letter to Cardiff as part of its Heart of Cardiff season. It has been recorded with other letters and can be heard here. My letter starts at 08m45s. A privilege to take part. heartofcardiff.co.uk/your-cardiff-e…
I am quoted in a comprehensive BBC news piece about Welsh rail recovery post Covid but said the current network was not financially sustainable if present use levels continue long term Railfuture Wales . bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-…
The changes to Britain's rail system announced today are a nudge in the right direction towards better services for passengers & value for taxpayers. However Railfuture Wales believes there remain too many unanswered qus to decide if the impact in Wales will be + long term.
I have seen two positive signs in the past 24 hours that rail usage is returning to 'normal'. A national TV ad inviting people to 'Return to Rail' and having an on train ticket check on a TfW Rail service. Both should help boost operator income which Railfuture Wales welcomes.
The start of a new service this week by Trafnidiaeth Cymru Trenau Transport for Wales Rail to provide direct trains from the Ebbw Vale branch (Cross Keys) to Newport is welcomed by Railfuture Wales, the 1st direct trains since the 1960's. Let's hope track doubling to allow the trains to run to E Vale town is ready soon.
Great news today: Cardiff Council has given planning permission for a new four platform station on the mainline between Cardiff & Newport, called Cardiff Parkway. This is very welcomed by Railfuture Wales. Target opening in 2024.
There has been a slight delay in the printing of the latest Railfuture Wales Rail Wales magazine but the next issue should arrive on your doormat this week. In the meantime it can be read here railfuturewales.org.uk/newsletters/Ra…
The decision by the Welsh Govt to not spend its scarce money on reopening the Holyhead-Cardiff air route is welcome by Railfuture Wales. The direct N Wales to Cardiff/Newport two hourly rail service is better for the environment and has a fraction of the carbon emissions.
The next issue of Rail Wales posted to Railfuture Wales members should be delivered in the first half of next week. Look out for pithy comment on the Fishguard ferry rail link and ticket splitting, and the latest Railfuture Wales news.
