“ No. ” He set the box of breadsticks on an empty counter and took one between his fingers. “ Well. I was in college for a football scholarship , just getting my basics done , and I hurt my back. Since then , I haven ‘ t really done. Much if anything. ”

He sighed , half - listening. He ‘ s heard this before. “ I know. I mean … I don ‘ t / mind / my job right now. I just , uh. Well. I ‘ m waiting to get promoted to store manager. Then at least I ‘ ll have something to put on my resume. Any year now. ”
