We love snorkeling around the canopy of our extensive kelp forests. They vibrant and productive places full of life. Look out for seals hiding under the kelp fronds, fish like pollack and wrasse, and tiny critters like nudibranchs and blue rayed limpets. Even catsharks!

I've been thinking about the transience of life, and you can't take it with you, so I'll be tweeting my own deep-sea photos about one-a-day for people to use however they want (just credit me). This is a sequence of the light emission of the shrimp Heterocarpus ensifer.

#OTD in 1834 Ernst Haeckel was born. We were going to post something not 'jelly' related but then we saw this illustration of Porpita porpita from the volume on siphonophores of the Challenger Expedition reports, which can be found in our rare books room MBA - Marine Biological Association 🪼

The talk was always going to spark debate — after all, the evidence on the bipedal monkeys is conflicting, at best. But the suggestions now being put forward are somewhat far-fetched. Could they really have done ALL those things?? #scifi by Shahar Dubiner nature.com/articles/d4158…

Myrmecia froggatti - Leeton, NSW This is a very cryptic species. They likely form very small colonies, with less than 20 workers. #ants #australia #entomology

Cannot believe I caught this on camera — a sea angel (devil?) feeding. These slugs live in the open ocean feeding almost exclusively on swimming snails (Limacina sp.). They do this in a pretty spectacular way — watch the video to see! #SeaSlugSaturday
