The poor misunderstood House centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) might look really scary. But they’re actually pretty chill. These beautiful centipedes originated in the Mediterranean and have spread globally via trade. Original comic by SNAKE.

In the weeks before cicadas emerge they dig tunnels to the surface but remain 7-8” below ground. They wait until soil at that depth reaches about 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Then they make their way to the surface. Males first, followed by females a few days later.
