Brilliant study on reintroduced Large Blue butterfly populations- colonisation depends on having a larger source population and has been helped by evolution for greater dispersal ability. We need large source patches.

More awesome footage of one of the most ethereal forest creatures: the lynx. We captured more daytime footage of lynx this past winter than in any previous winter, in large part, because we had many more cameras out this winter compared to previous years (had ~350 cameras out

David B George Monbiot Then let’s be honest & reframe what we want to leave our children at say 3-4°C, & all the accompanying impacts, rather than 1.5-2°C. As it stands the climate realm is locked into some delusional belief in future tech rather than facing up to today’s mitigation challenge.

As an evidence-based academic of more than 4 decades; may I say, in synthesis, This is scary shit we are embarking upon 2024 state of the climate report: Perilous times on planet Earth | BioScience | Oxford Academic academic.oup.com/bioscience/adv…

Sadly 2024 was one of the poorest breeding seasons for Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers since we started in 2015. Only 9 nests were found/monitored & on average only just over one young fledged per nest. This is probably not enough to sustain the population, see woodpecker-network.org.uk/images/Lesser_…

Woodcock migration happens in October & November. To reduce pressure on British-bred birds, many UK shoots delay shooting until 1 December. (Season opens on 1 Sep in Scotland and 1 October elsewhere). Blog about Woodcock conservation: wadertales.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/con… #ornithology

The UK’s carbon capture plans will cause emissions to soar past targets. This is a fossil fuel industry scam of epic proportions. Why? My thread on a letter from leading scientists to Ed Miliband 👇 And a concise briefing for your MP: mpwatch.org/blog/carbon-ca… #CCS

Lines of fir trees or nesting #Curlew? Poignant picture. How long will these birds nest here, once trees start to grow? Thread 1/5 #ornithology

Fascinating, and poignant, article on Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. Such a wealth of research and effort and yet no clear remedy.
