Ring Ouzel at Oare today, stayed pretty distant but showed for a while. Wheatear with what I believe is its thinking expression.
Thought I'd spotted a Penduline tit near the sluice, but April 23 was the last sighting at Oare, so doubting myself!

Orange Tip butterflies finally around in good numbers locally, this one going from Red Campion to White Dead-nettle, ignoring its caterpillar food plants available.

Skylarks were putting on a good show at Sandwich this afternoon, at least two Wheatear on the shingle. First St Marks fly I've seen this year, and quite a decent show of GWO too.

Red Mason bees started flying yesterday. I assume they clean out their nesting holes before starting the process on next year's generation.

Someone was doing a study on shop bought bee hotels, this one is quite successful. Buglife Solitary Bee Week

Hi Matthew Scott for Kent PCC Kent PCC's Office,

Has involvement in the Hoad's wood affair been referred to IPCC. I certainly don't have all the facts, but it is sounding like a Rotheham situation, with environment as victim, with lots of agencies involved.

Not attaching blame, just asking.

Broom and Thyme-leaved Speedwell both starting to flower in the coppice. Broom will be spectacular in Barming / Oaken wood coppice next week.

farms in the UK

Same obvious arguments - does not produce in winter when we need the power. Is land inefficient. Much more efficient placed in other areas nearer equator. etc etc.

When the tech is good/cheap enough, pair rooftop solar, with battery, ev & heat pump.

First of the March flies (Bibionidae sp.) on the wing today. Can get huge numbers of these on and around flowering Broom in the coppice at Oaken/Barming woods.

Think I shall name a footpath at Mereworth Woods, 'Adder ally', until the coppice regrowth gets too high anyway. Not far from the one spotted last year.
