Let's be honest here, I mostly post about trains. Well, cities too.
I currently work in the Japanese education sector but I'd rather work with trains.

I think I've finally hit on why Elon irritates me so much: he has the wealth and power of a 19th-century robber baron, but the media-cultural diet and affectation of a 15-year old boy. I expect a certain degree of refinement from my plutocrats, thank you very much.

This is really big. Choosing to use a very widely deployed standard should be easier deployment, greater reliability and an easier transition for ops. The ETCS will allow trains to run closer together and with fewer signal delays, improving service frequency and reliability.

Very interesting proposals for Chicago region transit, which would give the unified transit authority the power to invest directly in transit oriented development and aid the development of transit focused land use plans.

I keep saying it, but transit is a service-driven industry.

Service needs to lead. People won't begin to consider your service seriously until the service is reliably there.

I wanted some new wind chimes, so I naturally bought some from Amtrak that are tuned to sound like a K5LA.

This thing rules I love it.

After nearly a decade in the works, the former PHA headquarters in Rittenhouse is coming down. A 156-unit building with ground-floor commercial and some affordable units will rise in its place, continuing PHA's mission in this prime location.

wpb003 I never noticed it until I started caring more, but it is absolutely wild how differently the general public views road vs. transit infrastructure.

And the Strib plays into, hoping to get more clicks. The SWLRT is just a ad-money printing hack for them at this point.

Portland’s FX2 on Division: a frequent local bus route upgraded with better stops, stop consolidation, traffic signal priority, better passenger information, and branding. We need more of this all over the US — and we need to figure out how to build it much more quickly.

Arlington County, Virginia has less than 250,000 people. I think I knew that, but I was looking at D.C.-area county population numbers, and I found it shocking. A county that close to a major American city should absolutely be much denser.

Surely we're making things better for people walking, biking, and taking the public trains and buses. Right? Riiiiight?

How can anyone view Toronto’s modern city planning “best practice” as anything other than a total tool for the wealthy landed, I will never understand.

How can putting all the growth and density next to a highway be healthy for us, while sheltering SFH neighbourhoods.
