At the The Royal Society until Wednesday at John Speakman and Kevin Hall’s Causes of Obesity conference. So far, it’s been fascinating. Particularly enjoyed Sadaf Farooqi’s reframing of genetic predispositions to obesity as successful adaptations to our former environment(s).
The carbohydrate-insulin model, from Dr. David Ludwig. Definitely got discussion going! My favourite question was from Barbara Corkey. Following her great talk yesterday, I wonder if mitochondrial reaction to environment is the key. Linoleic acid anyone?
Panel discussion with Dr. David Ludwig, Kevin Hall, Prof David Raubenheimer & Prof Stephen Simpson, Prof. James Stubbs. I asked the question of linoleic acid acting globally on mitochondria. Hopefully a few people now know about the effect at least!
I attended the Causes of Obesity conference at The The Royal Society this week. It attracted world experts to illuminate the mechanisms causing obesity, so that we may best stop it. This is a 🧵 summarising my experience of a great event, and of the profound subjects around obesity.
