98.68 percent of IATSE // #IASolidarity members just voted to authorize a nationwide strike for fair pay, adequate rest, and breaks. This is the biggest private sector strike in the US in 10+ years, and the first in the industry's 128-year history. A milestone moment for the labor movement.

🚨 It's been 199 days of silence & pay secrecy from Backstage. 🚨 Workers deserve better & we know it. It's beyond time for Backstage to take responsibility & add a simple post-the-pay rule to their job site. #ShowUsTheMoney @CPfWE Sign the petition: tinyurl.com/PayTransparenc…

IATSE // #IASolidarity “The study concludes that working 55 or more hours per week is associated with an estimated 35% higher risk of a stroke and a 17% higher risk of dying from ischemic heart disease, compared to working 35-40 hours a week.” who.int/news/item/17-0…

Cannot tell you how many actors I’ve told to “act harder” when they complained about the safer thing. I’ll also tell you to “act less” with a dangerous thing, like a knife onstage that needs to be pretty sharp because cutting food onstage is “fun”.

The reason I screech about living wages & work-life boundaries is because I know now how transformative basic, humane working conditions can be. Theatres glamorize working yourself to death because it's good for their broken business model -- not for you, and not for the art.

love when I pose rhetorical questions in the newsletter and men who do not know me take it as an invitation to email me and explain how non-profit boards work, as if I didn't spent 13 of my hottest years wearing on-clearance Anthro to make small talk at donor events, take a SEAT

Pro tip: If you're working as a stage manager or actor, and your employer is paying you on a 1099, there's a 99% chance you're being misclassified.

when a theatre sends you a list of potential orgs to have on a panel & 1 has ties to an immigrant youth detention center so u let the theatre know about their harmful legacy & they're like we've removed them from all our lists for future partnerships CAN I GET A W IN THE CHAT?

Only senior team members will be given org credit cards. Junior staff who make far more purchases on behalf of the company must loan the org money out of their own pockets and beg for a reimbursement.
