this is good. "It is my theory that "knowing how" is revered because it can be tested... Where you can test, you can set a high standard of proficiency on which everyone is agreed; where you cannot test precisely, proficiency becomes something of a judgment call."

New modality drugs are making it to market at an increasing clip. ~30 in last 5 years, ~50 in registrational trials. Different factors for different modalities, but some of the hurdles are the same. @biocentury. biocentury.com/article/634691…

I love this approach to running a classroom, from Duncan Sabien: Instead of punishments, set up costs. Kids get to make choices for themselves about which actions are worth which costs. (From Spencer Greenberg 🔍's Clearer Thinking Podcast: clearerthinkingpodcast.com/?ep=021)

Have not tweeted much about #biotech lately, but a recent grad asked for some advice (about to move to the HC team at an IB.) Passed these along: First, a few tips re science/medical data:

Incentives are superpowers. If we can design a new system where everyone has aligned incentives, we'll be in good shape.

What bio R&D, if any, wins funding when success means facing price controls? This first-of-its-kind business plan competition let’s us find out before we subject the biotech sector to actual policy. Jeb Keiper Sara Nayeem & I judging on Sat. To make things more complicated - the moment you're aware of the data, you've implicitly chosen option 1 until you've decided otherwise. Leadership is hard.

I get intro’d to a lot of undergrads considering med school (and alternatives), as well as a lot of med students considering whether to go through the residency match. As an MD/MBA who never did residency and instead pursued healthcare finance (i-banking and then VC),...1/16

Excellent thread from Sara Nayeem on med school considerations in an age of innovation and entrepreneurship. Sara is an MD/MBA who pivoted pre-residency. I went a bit further (residency, fellowship, practice, division head…VC.) Some hopefully complementary advice: (1/n)

Fair - I know from experience (esp. w/ study startup) that the value add is there, but the use cases are fragmented, so your best shot at a viable business is through bundling, win by win.
