Found this great tool to see how green your bank, energy provider, or pension is. NatWest Group score terribly (my bank of 10+ years) - looks like I'll be switching! Natwest have funded fossil fuels with over $12 billion since the Paris Climate Agreement. switchit.money

We've wasted five years in this country, and will waste many more, on Brexit, whose sole purpose was to resolve an internal dispute in the Conservative Party. Years we could have spent addressing our real, existential crisis, the threat to the living systems that keep us alive.

And the same applies to the whole culture. The utter trivia that dominates the news, the national obsessions with baking, dancing, celebrity, sport at the expense of everything else, the disputes splitting the Labour Party: all the while the sand is running through our fingers.

The ecological crisis is ultimately being driven by our economic system, which is predicated on perpetual expansion. So yes, compost and recycle and avoid flying as much as possible, but above all organize and fight for a post-capitalist economy.

Edwin, Maria, Farzana & Jakapita are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Their stories deserve a seat at the #COP26 table. These brave activists are attempting to sail to the heart of the UN climate talks. SHARE & RT

Police and Crime Bill includes a new offence of damage to memorials and statues carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years. Maximum sentence for a Section 47 aka ABH is 5 years. So people who harm statues could end up in prison twice as long as people who harm people.

Newsroom leaders who say climate change is “difficult to cover” b/c of its “depressing outlook,” I’d ask: Are you being super clear, in every story, that the main cause is fossil fuels? Are you being super clear, in every story, that the main solution is to replace them?

If your economy requires people to produce and consume things they don't need or even want, and to do more of it each year than the year before, just in order to keep the whole edifice from collapsing, then you need a different economy.

While Boris Johnson is a blight on this country, and it is high time he fell, remember that he is also a proxy for other powers: Rupert Murdoch, Frederick Barclay, the property developers and financiers who fund the Tory Party. It's not just a new PM we need. It's a new system.

George Monbiot (@georgemonbiot) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We don't have a cost of living crisis. In a better system, everyone could easily afford to live. We have a cost of exploitation crisis.

George Monbiot (@georgemonbiot) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Why, in so much discussion of the cost of living crisis, is there so little discussion of the biggest component - rent? For many people, the major reason why they cannot make ends meet is that they must pay outrageous prices to keep a roof over their heads.

Every time you hear the word 'deregulation', think 'more poo in my local river'. Because, in practice, that is the kind of thing it will mean
