There’s no version of me that “just shows up.” If I’m involved, it’s getting planned, shot, and delivered with intent.

This is how they finesse indie artists with video work. They never break down how your video is getting done or what it really takes. No pushback, no reality check, just an invoice. If nobody challenges your vision or explains the execution, you’re being entertained.

This is how you know your video is about to be mid. There’s no pre-production, no locked in plan, just “pull up and shoot” That means you’re paying to freestyle on set and hoping the edit saves it. They get paid either way. You’re the one stuck with the result.

A lot of indie artists don’t even think about this when hiring a videographer. If your video guy is using fonts, overlays, templates, these must be licensed properly, otherwise, your video can get flagged or pulled. Same way uncleared samples mess up a beat.

The biggest and most ignorant mistake an indie artist came make when paying for video work. Under U.S. copyright law the creator owns the video unless ownership is clearly transferred in writing. Imagine the song blows up and now paperwork becomes leverage.
