Crews in Rome worked on roadside trash clean up along NY 365 this week. When the snow melts we all see months of trash accumulation along the roads. Don’t be a litterbug, wait to toss your trash at an appropriate location. #WorkZoneSafety

Oneida East crews taking advantage of the early pre-dawn hours before traffic picks up to address a few pot holes 🕳️ in Whitesboro, Oneida County. Pothole patching is happening all over the state. Slow down and drive cautiously when you see any work zone. #WorkZoneSafety

Sometimes our crews move mountains. Sometimes, they clean up after one moves. Our Oneida West team responded to a slope failure along NY 46 in Western earlier this week, clearing debris & checking for additional risk during spring thaw conditions.🚧

When slowing down & merging safely would have been the better choice. Earlier this week, a NYSDOT plow on I-81 caught drivers ignoring “lane ends, merge right” signs, trying to beat the plow, & even using the median as a lane. No crash. No injuries. That was luck, not judgment.

April 15th is tax day but for NYSDOT operations it also marks the formal end of our snow 🌨️& ice 🧊season! Each heavy dump truck undergoes a thorough cleaning and is inspected by a supervisor & mechanic before being treated with rust inhibitor & placed in the construction fleet.

Work zones are active job sites, not inconveniences.  In 2025 alone, there were 366 crashes in NYSDOT work zones, resulting in 58 injuries and 2 fatalities. Speeding, distraction, and unsafe driving put lives at risk every single day.   Your choices behind the wheel matter.
