Local residents & Parish Councillors gathered at the VE Day display on North Road next to the Lambton Worm last night to show their respect with an informal ceremony as part of the 80th VE Day commemorations. A 2 mins silence was observed & lamps of peace were lit. #lestweforget

June 6, 1944 D-Day. The brave people that stormed the beaches of Normandy. They put their lives on the line, for our freedom. We owe them everything. The bravest of the brave. Never forget. #DDay81

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ VJ Day - Lest We Forget πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Today we remember the end of WWII in the Pacific and honour those who served, suffered, and sacrificed. A time to reflect on the courage and resilience of our Armed Forces. We will remember them.

Remembrance is an important moment of the year when we show our support for our Armed Forces. Wearing a poppy and supporting the Royal British Legion is one way to thank the Armed Forces for the sacrifices they continue to make to protect our freedom.

God bless the brave, both gone and near, Who faced the fight, who conquered fear. Their courage shines, their honor stays, Through endless nights and brighter days.

The group cut back this year on displays due to volunteer availability but there is definitely enough poppies across the whole of Chester le Street to help induce the passion for Remembrance yet again. #LestWeForget.

Today an informal gathering was held at North Road to pay respects to the fallen of all conflicts. Chris Veitch of the Remembrance Group gave a reading and a 2 mins silence was held. The Last Post was sounded by bugler Kate McDougal. A beacon of Peace was lit & wreathes laid.
