The white-tailed tropicbird is a pantropical understudied #seabird. In #SãoTomé & #Principe, little is known for this species so we engaged in a collaboration with Fundação Príncipe & Nina da Rocha & the support of @seabirdgroup to study their biology #threats & #foragingecology

So far we found 20 nests of this beautiful #tropicbirds in #Principe. Most birds just start to lay or are on egg, but some have a small chick or even a fledgling showing they possibly breed year-round. Today Nina da Rocha found this gorgeous nest 😍😍 Fundação Príncipe #seabirds

3 days looking for white-tailed #tropicbirds in the ilheu Boné do Joquei (or Caroço) gave us exhiguous results (only 3 accessible nests) but we could enjoy from an espectacular tropical islet and views of tropicbirds flying around the crazy cliffs of the islet Nina da Rocha

After 1 month checking breeding sites of white-tailed #tropicbirds in #Principe we found an islet with 20 nests we hope can be "easily" monitored in collaboration with Fundação Príncipe to help us understand the basic biology of this understudied population Nina da Rocha IRBioUB

A woderful boat trip around #Principe confirmed most white-tailed #tropicbirds breeding areas previously cited 👉ca.wikiloc.com/rutes-llanxa-m… For this trip we had the help of two great ornithologists 💪that happened to be in the area😱 Marta Acácio & Inês Catry Such a small world!
