Awesome insights from my previous PI Subhojit Roy, MD, PhD into the role of phosphorylation in synucleinopathies, mainly Parkinson’s. Much mystery stilll remains 👀. Congrats to Leonardo Parra-Rivas on the publication in Neuron !

It was an honor speaking with Atul Gawande about end-of-life care, his personal reflections on medicine, and his advice for families trying to navigate the most difficult medical conversations.

One question we often get asked is 'What kind of article is NEJM AI interested in?'

In a new editorial we lay several areas that are of high-interest. If you are working on one of these topics, consider submitting to NEJM AI.

This # was 41 for neurosurgery not long ago (my previous interest), now 73.8.

The more medical leadership perpetuates this number (especially in a world w/strong LLMs) as something to aim for, the more medical students are disincentivized to do real science.

Impact > number

Would not have made it through medical school without Anki (blessup AnKing).

Excited to contribute to the next gen of neuro education through the development of the section of NeurAnki .

Shoutout Dr. Idha Sood 🌐 for her incredible leadership on this!

There’s a need to test AD 🩸 biomarkers in populations with comorbidities.

Sacubitril/valsartan, a heart failure drug (ARB+neprilysin inhib), will confound 🩸 Aβ tests reducing Aβ42/Aβ40 by ~30% (only ~10% ⬇️ in AD). No changes in p-tau, NfL and GFAP.

Sergey Brin is worth $105 billion yet he was a core contributor on the Gemini AI technical paper, coding basically every day.

Legend.

My doctors gave me a 1 in a million chance to find a cure to my disease.

To make things worse, I didn’t have a billion dollars and 10 years to develop a new drug from scratch.

My only hope was to find a drug that was already FDA-approved that I could repurpose for my disease.…

No I’m sorry 3 years is way too long for a fellowship. 6 months max. You can learn 99% of the job in 6 months. Everything else goes to Mayo.

Excited to see our paper with Albert (Gus) Davis is out in JCI insight. Led by Michael Kanan and Pat Sheehan, with help from Jonathan Cooper & Joseph Takahashi. This is our last Bmal1 KO paper for a while, but it's been a good run!

Fascinating to see LeCun use Kahneman to explain the fundamental difference but machine intelligence and human intelligence… humans do run on “system 1” most of the time though :/.

On the last day of National Family Caregivers Month, I want to share that being a caregiver has been the single hardest experience of my life.

It is incredibly painful, overwhelming and I often feel like with Brian's illness I have lost my own identity, my freedom, my own life.
