A group of women leaders, Noble Prize laureates, and activists from around the world including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Malala Yousafzai, Christine Lagarde and Chrystia Freeland have signed a petition that urges the UN to remove the Islamic Republic from its Commission on the Status of Women.

“Iranian people are not only openly opposing 83-year-old Khamenei, but are actively fighting back to defend themselves against security forces, and tearing down billboards and burning pictures of the founder of Islamic Republic Khomeini,” Nazanin Boniadi told a UNSC meeting.
