Cus I know something about poverty & disparity I think I can say with some authority that THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT #WORKINGCLASS - they are violent thugs that exist beneath the underbelly of a civilisation that has been cultivated by tories, please use another word, like scum #Riots

There's plenty of us #workingclass who aren't racist but there are some, same as there are many middle & upper class folk who are - the thing is some people are just uneducated in what is right, they are void of goodness and light - empathy, love & compassion transcends all of us

My memoir isn't just about growing up in rural poverty, it's about what it took to lift myself up and out; I didn't want a life of menial dead-end jobs, I wanted to be a writer, and when I was told at school to aim lower, I learnt one thing as a result - RESILIENCE, cus fuck that

Raise your fists in the air folks I've just signed my second literary contract in six months - not bad for a poor #workingclass kid from the country, still doing it my way x

Great news to end the week on - Amazon have finally listened to my nagging to lower the price of UNDERCURRENT so that it's more accessible to folk who are cash strapped, so watch out for their 99p kindle deal for September, you're gonna love it! x

Closing libraries is cultural vandalism, for every kid heading back to School this week, they are warmth & understanding, homework clubs & downtime books & a safe place with WiFi when they live in digital poverty, one thing I'd ask The Labour Party is to #SupportLibraries in policy, now

I've a sense that we #WorkingClass are losing the space to speak about our experiences, I fear cus social media is dumbing down we're losing free connectability, especially in publishing where editors & agents are slipping behind closed doors, only accessible to those in the know

5 years ago, after being pissed off that I wasn't seeing any #WorkingClass Writers alongside me on-stage, I famously suggested that we needed a festival of our own, soon after ClassFestival was born, it was fucking ace, publishing took notice for a bit, but we defo need it again
