It's a bad day for HRM, no other way to put it. Look out for your neighbours, and thank your firefighters, many of whom put themselves seriously in harm's way today. Unfortunately, it is far from over but hopefully some improvement tomorrow.

In my experience covering wildfires: Tomorrow is going to be worse and we will know as much as today. Fire is unpredictable. They don't have paths and timelines like hurricanes and similarly they don't chose the easiest path like water. Be patient. Stay alert. Shut your windows.

And with that, if you're planning outdoor anything within the Halifax area this week perhaps change plans. It's going to take a while until we even get to the state of controlled fire. Which means it will still burn. The air quality will be bad and outdoor activity will be poor.

And finally, friends, go knock on your neighbours door. The eldery, disabled and otherwise are more susceptible to poor air quality conditions. They could have limited resources on learning the about the situation. Or worse, they may be scared like you. With nobody. Reach out.

Early mornings commuters in Halifax and the surrounding areas: Wildlife are escaping the fires. Watch out for deer, raccoons. porcupine and similar while being aware birds and winged wildlife may be in unexpected areas or flying lower than usual.

If you live in the evacuation area and have a pet inside there are efforts to help with this. SPCA is helping. So is the RCMP. So is this group. facebook.com/groups/2074515…

Tomorrow, brave men & women will battle fires in 30+ degree temperatures while wearing heavy gear, carrying even heavier equipment while risking their lives in an unwavering attempt to push back an unrelenting force but sure, tell us more about how the ban is so unfair.

This is your reminder it can be dangerous to have a bath or shower during a thunderstorm. Considering the forecast, you may need to wait until Monday.

Please stay home due to the current flooding conditions. Never attempt to cross a flooded area. If you must drive, do not drive through flood water. Drive carefully with headlights on. Make way for pedestrians and emergency vehicles.
