A nice care scheme run by a small housing assoc. Elderly residents were happy and thriving. Then, their landlord merges with another HA. Service charges rise, standards decline, and residents are shut out of decision making. In SHAC's experience, a familiar story. Anchor

Such commercialisation is encouraged by the funding, legal & regulatory environment that housing assocs operate in, but it brutally removes social purpose. Tenants and residents are pawns in this game. We don't need commercialisation, we need radical rethinking of housing.

🥀 LABOUR LETS BIG MONEY LAWFARE TRUMP DEMOCRACY 🥀 When did power go from the people to unelected elites? On ending leasehold, a The Labour Party manifesto pledge, this government is making excuses and letting rich vested interests set the agenda through lawfare.

Imagine - an end to the system whereby you have to pay up even when you're disputing your landlord's extortionate, inaccurate, or just unexplained service charges. Echoing the Rent Deposit Scheme, disputed money is held by a third party, not the landlord. Yay!

Our new film is causing a stir. A deep dive into the feudal class system behind leasehold and how little has been done to end it. The Duke of Westminster moment is chilling: “We’re above Parliament. What we do is right and moral … because I say it is.” 🎥 WATCH NOW 👇

Has power changed Keir Starmer, or was "fixing the foundations" always just a campaign slogan? In opposition, he demanded Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Gov make us whole, but now his mate Angela Rayner runs the show, he's silent. inews.co.uk/news/trapped-l…

"A resident was startled by a loud crash as her bathroom cabinet detached from the wall. It was directly above the toilet ... she could have either been killed outright or suffered serious, life-changing injuries." Angela Rayner & Matthew Pennycook MP time to hold landlords to account!

Labour has failed to deliver on its promise. 3 million leaseholders want an end to the ridiculous feudal leasehold system. Instead they created a 2 tier system and seem lost. thetimes.com/article/c06ec3…

The Birmingham bin workers are being told to accept their wage cuts or get out. Jobs some have been doing for more than 20 years. Their homes are now at risk because they can’t pay their mortgages. Labour is effectively threatening these workers with #FireandRehire.

SHAC rejects and resists the 'divide and rule' that pits leaseholders against tenants and only serves landlords. We bring people together to fight on common causes, regardless of tenure or any other arbitrary characteristic.

✊ With your help Birmingham's Bin workers will not be bullied back to work on vastly lower wages! Bham City Council is threatening to #FireAndRehire its refuse team. But our members aren’t backing down & your donations can help support the families of struggling strikers:

Nominations open in October and we will be setting out achievements over the last three years and the gains we can win over the next three!

The Labour Party promised to change the law on fire and rehire, instead their councillors and commissioners are using it to hammer workers. Solidarity with the bin workers.
