Who decides what constitutes art? After reading about Congo, a chimpanzee from the 1950s whose artwork sold for thousands of dollars, students attempted an abstract piece of artwork.

Can animals create art? That is the issue students debated after reading “Monkey Master” this week. They spent time preparing their arguments, anticipating the other-side, and then taking part in a structured debate. This is an impressive group!

Technology changes fast! Fast forward 70 years, what will you tell your grandkids happened “back in your day”? So fun to hear students read in their best grandma/grandpa voices!

Time to debate! Can you classify each food item as either a soup, salad, or sandwich? Explain why. Students walked around and categorized various foods— soup, salad, or sandwich? Then they debated in front of the classroom. So, is pizza a soup, salad, or sandwich?

“So many things are possible just as long as you don't know they're impossible.” -Norton Justen, The Phantom Tollbooth. Students are acting out this wonderful play adapted from the novel. Their enthusiasm to bring characters to life is so much fun to watch!#multisensorylearning

It began as identifying the allusion in “I, Too” by Langston Hughes. It became a compare and contrast activity between “I Hear America Singing” by Walt Whitman and “I, Too” by Langston Hughes. These kids always impress me with their insights! #enrichment #studentledlearning

Active reading for book clubs is the best kind of reading! Tracing characterization, plot, figurative language, setting, and theme through our many novels the last few weeks. Go MSN 6th graders! #6thgradebookclub #ReadingMatters
