Robert Macmillan Dylan Wiliam I looked for research a few years ago and didn't find anything substantial. My own view: the TEACHER should know the lesson's goal, but the STUDENTS should probably begin the lesson thinking about something else: e.g., activating prior knowledge.

This argument doesn’t follow. The curriculum hasn’t changed in years, but attendance has- mainly because of lockdowns, dehabituation of children and families from the presumption of attendance. Asking students if they are engaged with the work misunderstands what engagement is:

"While I don’t expect teachers to alter their teaching methods based on suggestions from parents, I do recommend that teachers keep an open mind and a certain level of receptivity when people outside of the classroom share their insights and expertise."

Robert Pondiscio I wrote a lot of articles criticizing math ed before I became a T and was reminded often by Ts that I wasn't a T. When I became one, I was then told that I hadn't taught for very long. Always excuses for not wanting to listen. Beanie Natalie (Mullen) Brankin Alt B Anna Stokke

Honored to represent The Reading League at the Region 10 Literacy Conference today! 🙌 "Reading Between the Lines" is about more than books—it's about impact. Let’s build a literacy movement. #Region10 #TheReadingLeague #LiteracyMatters #BePhenomenal

I recently came across the latest Ontario Ministry of Education "Guide to Effective Instruction in Mathematics" and I was disappointed by what I read. I wrote my first Substack post critically examining one section of it: open.substack.com/pub/mikehastie…

This latest in a series of school crusades from Jamie Oliver is bad news for both the profession and - more importantly - those who find learning to read most difficult. >>

Rachel Ball Zach Groshell Steplab Alright, well while you’re in Canada, you need to try Lays Ketchup chips & cheer for the correct hockey team- the Oilers 🧡💙! Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals is on tonight if you can squeeze it in 😉

What an absolutely amazing and perfectly organized event for teachers! These are the sorts of investments into the profession that make a difference for the next generation of evidence informed teachers!

Zach Groshell This was such an amazing conference, and I honestly signed up for it because Dr. Zach would be there. There were other great instructors, but I got so much out of this session, and I'm so grateful. Ps, that's me in front 😁

Yes, Zach Groshell is spot on. Instructional planning should begin with #learningobjectives, then decide how you want students to show they've met the LOs (i.e., #assessments). Lastly, choose instructional methods & materials to align to LOs & assessment. #EdPsychModules
