They make exams and tests harder to make sure that fewer children do well. When the results come out the papers will say that standards are going down, which is teachers' fault and children are becoming stupid. In an election year the govt can say they'll make it all better.

Formal timed and notified observations should go in the bin. Just pop in class and see say day to day normal teaching. See what happens every day. You don’t need to stay for long. Float and move on. Return to see progression of a lesson if necessary.
