A1: i think breaking down the walls of our classrooms means to use any and al resources available to us to make the learning experience meaningful to our students- not just bookwork and worksheets etc #risdchat

A2: it's important to connect our classroom to the world b/c: it allows our Ss to see the "value" in why we are doing what we are doing, it provides them w/ experiences they may not be exposed to otherwise, & it allows us to get to know them non-academically #risdchat

A3: in our PFL unit we discuss college expenses and budgeting, the adv/disadv of 2yr vs 4 yr colleges. we do a PBL lesson in which the students research one of each type of college and explore more about it- the kids really begin to see the differnenes of each #risdchat

A4: it's our responsibility to teach to the Ss in what is now their "native language"- technology! we need to incorporate as much as possible- but meaningfully, not just for the sake of saying "i used it today" but to say "i taught my kids a valuable life tool today" #risdchat

a2: our campus is big on using kagan strategies, think-pair-share is great for getting them to talk, but for my more reluctant MS math learners I give them the option of videoing their response and sending it to me via google classroom #risdchat

A3: making sure to provide materials in multiple languages is key. i have a student who just moved here and they read/write in arabic- translation is crucial in our room #risdchat

Q5: I try to welcome all students the same, but again provide all materials in both languages- on a personal level I try and form a relationship in which they know I generally care about their success and am there to help them #risdchat

Q6: I receive help from our ESL teachers on a daily basis. We grouped a large percentage of our 8yh grade ESL students in One of my math periods-one of our ESL teachers comes in to that class every day and assists in any translation issues etc it’s amazing #risdchat
