As an openly queer KS educator, I have been consumed with the the probability of, “when will they come for me?” As of late especially. Now is the time to fight like hell and demand allyship of those at the top who claim to diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

One of my biggest identifiable stressors is living in constant conflict of doing what is right for learning/children and doing what is asked of and expected of me. To the point of tears, nausea, and a racing heart rate. The past 2 weeks have been this and I know I’m not alone.

‘Maslow before you Bloom’ is cute, but it never seems to apply to Black children in America. We expect them conform to school’s rigid ideologies about what learning looks and sounds like without caring for and nurturing their personhood.

A thought I just had—do we struggle to find real world application of mathematics because we’ve only been taught to think of math/manipulate numbers in 2D? If we begin to think of math in more dimensions and numbers as descriptors of space, how does that change application? 🤔
