It’s come to my attention that many people think continuous delivery/deployment is about taking whatever crap you have in version control & shipping it into prod as fast as possible so you can test in prod NO CD is about making it SAFE to ship your code into prod quickly by:

TODO: really learn what I can do with cloud IDEs. It seems like they're optimized for commando dev work, open, get in, change things, get out. I'd still use a regular IDE for projects I work with 40 hours a week.

StackOverflow has features to ensure the asker is asking something that isn't idle wondering (i.e. a good question with effort, for some pragmatic purpose) - but then creates SE sites where that is the only thing one could ask (applications for sci-fi fandom speculation? none)

META: good political content on twitter from regular people should go beyond "I'm partisan and I'm repeating something I saw someone else say because I'm so full of emotion" If that's all you got, you should be muted, it's noise.

My Philips Hue White smart bulb won't stop blinking. I'm just going to put on Kpop and pretend that is what I want it to do instead of spending an hour googling how to fix it and posting questions on forums. Wheee the office is night club now

DoorDash is doing some dogfooding -- requiring its employees to do at least one delivery a month, to see what it's like on the receiving end of their software. The problem, though, isn't just DoorDash's ruthless optimization. It's the business model: marker.medium.com/the-value-and-…

Software Engineers are not Code Monkeys that just take requests, bang on keyboards, and something comes out the other end. Also, it's not a factory job. In some places, they get treated like that; those are not good places for Software Engineering careers to grow.

Architect - write the model app (toy version of how apps are supposed to work around here, think petshop) SR dev - turn model into a production grade app (error handling, logging, bullet proof) JR dev - modify code SR dev wrote, write non-prod code Everyone codes.

Can't we all, far right & far left & center come together and agree that Confederates & Nazis are at best traitors. The traitor is so far out of the Overton window, they always represent an existential threat to everyone.

Can you believe that it's possible to live the lifestyle of a rich New Yorker, if you are prepared to spend $140,000 a month, in New York? incredible wsj.com/articles/flexi…
