Tried out a colleague’s idea in ELA today! Students had to create their own claims, reasons, and counterclaims for each other’s ideas. Great way to teach and practice creating a strong argument!⭐️📝

I am blown away by the collaboration and higher level thinking of 6th grade Ss ⁦Hawthornmiddlenorth73⁩! Their creativity making connections through hexagonal thinking with ⁦Jess Salerno⁩ and ⁦Beth Jahn⁩ is impressive! #bettertogether

Our ALA classes were given the challenging task of “hexagonal thinking” - They read multiple poems by famous black poets & activists, then used hexagons to connect the poems’ themes, motifs, symbols, figurative language, literary devices, etc. They rocked it!! 🤔💭💡Beth Jahn

Summer School was a blast this year!! 3rd grade is such a fun age to teach (but I still love my 6th graders!) Best of luck in 4th grade and maybe I’ll see these kiddos in a few years at MSN!🤩☀️

Earlier this week, ELA read an excerpt from Jacqueline Woodson’s “Brown Girl Dreaming” and today they participated in 5 different stations. We worked on making inferences, identifying signposts, common & proper nouns, identifying the theme, etc. Busy day!!!😅😁

ELA had some fun comparing & contrasting the two texts “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers and “I was a Skinny Tomboy Kid.” We♥️ Jamboards!
