Last week we begun our leaf investigation with a nature walk! We found and observed so much right in our backyard!

Field trip! Today 1st grade headed to Russell Farms to learn about the life cycle of pumpkins and all things farm life. We appreciated the autumn fair and warm sunlight on this beautiful fall day!

Today we celebrated our hard work on our small moments stories. We shared some supportive feedback on post it notes during our gallery walk. It was so nice to see all the compliments that our peers shared about everyone’s writing!

Today we explored some our pumpkins after doing some predictions. We worked together to count all the seeds in our pumpkin. Our total was 458 seeds!

Today we continued learning about the upcoming holiday of Kwanzaa. We engaged in a couple of activities in alliance with the value of “umoja” (unity). We made a paper chain of all of our names and tried to work through a human knot. Happy Kwanzaa to all those who celebrate!

Just like that! My first student teaching placement with Kylie Hollar is a wrap! This was one of the hardest days of my life. Words cannot describe the amount of gratitude & love that have filled me today. These students will forever be a part of me and have made me who I am.

It has been an exciting first month of the new year Crooked Creek in my new student teaching placement! I am so grateful for the educators I’ve met and the incredible students who work so hard everyday. Their joy, hugs and smiles always make my day!

Educators need to understand pedagogy AND policy. Today Butler COE senior student teachers are learning about the impact of policy on schools at the Indiana State Board of Education meeting.

“Can we do a project and make our own volcanoes?” Yes!! These students were inspired after reading about Icelandic volcanoes to create their own. They asked deep, thoughtful questions like “What would people do if volcanoes killed all the plants?” and “Why do volcanoes explode?”

It’s been a busy week at Crooked Creek! Students have been working hard before the count down to spring break begins next week. I’m so proud of the effort I’ve seen from these students!

This week we have been learning about recipes! These students read a “fudgy waffle brownies” recipe from a cookbook and learned about units of measurement as they baked. They did a great job collaborating to make some treats from themselves and delivered some around the school!

Field Trip! Today first grade went to Eagle Creek Park Foundation to learn all about wildlife. We were able to touch tadpoles and turtles. My favorite animal we saw was the fairy shrimp!

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” -Winnie the Pooh I am so grateful for these students and teachers who have made me the teach I am today. A part of them will be with me wherever I go. Last day of student teaching 🥹
