Sad to hear prolific character actor Gerald Harper has died aged 96. Most fondly remembered for playing the lead in Adam Adamant Lives! & Hadleigh, also took one off roles in various dramas including here in The Avengers & The Champions Elstree Studios. Great stage actor too.

Despite the spivs & toughs I find the voice of Ray Brooks one of the most reassuring sounds in the world. Something postwar about it: makes me think of smoke rising from a fire built by kids on a bombsite. He voiced all those public safety ads, too. Probably saved all our lives.
