When it comes to what climate goals we should be aiming for, there are a lot of "magic numbers" floating around - 2 degrees, 12 years, 350ppm, net zero emissions, and more. Here's a short thread explaining the scientific basis--or lack thereof--for each.

More than 1,000 women at Carswell prison STILL have no heat. This is the 5th day of below freezing temperatures in Fort Worth. "My feet feel like ice cubes no matter how many pair of socks," one woman said in a message. star-telegram.com/news/local/for…

This map image shows high-stress and low-stress areas for bicycling in Dallas. Red is high stress. Dallas now ranks 669th out of 767 cities in safe, comfortable and connected bicycle networks. And you should try riding at night! 😳 cityratings.peopleforbikes.org/how-city-ratin…

Dallas has been destroying its affordable housing for decades while making new construction far more difficult than it needs to be. Homelessness is a policy choice.

There is a very real risk that politicians from both parties will interpret this summer’s climate disasters and fatalities as a reason to focus exclusively on adapting to extreme weather rather than eliminating its primary cause, carbon emissions from fossil fuels. Don’t let them

The man, the myth, the parking reform legend Nathaniel Barrett has quit his day job to work full time on making our city a better, more equitable place to live. He's abundantly capable and it's a privilege to witness his vision for Dallas. Check out his website Barretturban.com

Heads-up: there's a resolution approving the reconstruction of I-345 on the Dallas city Council's consent agenda for Feb 22nd. This Council has done a complete 180 on this god-awful mile-long piece of racist infrastructure & now wants to sweep it under the rug w/o any more debate

My point is that every meeting is missing someone tired, busy, unaware. They might even be passionate about the issue. We should adapt public processes to deal with these realities.

We need to remind U.S. Department of Transportation that it’s not their job to prioritize cars. It’s their job to transport people, whether by walking, biking, driving, or taking transit.

The short answer is Dallas was ready 100 years ago but we'll settle for today. The long answer is that this cynical piece fails to conduct any cost/benefit analysis, identify useful alternatives or consider anything but gut feelings on the politics of housing reform.
