When I talk to my friends & neighbors, we talk about the need for better roads, more water, a more reliable energy grid, making sure we can find high-quality employees, & inflation. We never talk about vouchers. We like our public schools. We trust our public schools. #txlege

Asking parents who already made the decision to send their kids to private school if they’d like a taxpayer handout for the cost is like asking if I’d like to have a tamale. Of course! The vast majority of Texans don’t want vouchers. They want investments in pub ed! #txed #txlege

TX parents have choice! They have their neighborhood school, intradistrict/interdistrict transfers, magnet schools, & public charters. They can also home school or select a private school. Choice exist. Vouchers are, as Jeremy Wallace says, private school coupons. #txlege #txed

Don’t be fooled. Vouchers don’t work and have zero accountability. It’s a private sector boondoggle that will hurt the middle class that made the Texas Miracle.

Their school board members are their neighbors & little league coaches. Their kids’ teacher teaches Sunday school. Their coach runs summer camp. They aren’t hundred of miles away. They are in the community working hand & hand with the parent. It has to be done together. #txed

That’s false. Parents won’t be in charge. Private schools will. They have the final decision in selective admissions. We have to start being honest about who makes the final decision. It’s not fair to deceive parents into believing their children can attend any private school.

Such a flawed marketing ploy. Fund driveways, not highways. Fund faucets, not reservoirs. Fund light bulbs, not energy grids. Fund cars, not energy production. Fund computers, not internet access. Some things are a societal good & require a public commitment. #txed
