Congrats to the six A2 & IB2 students on their Class Civ and Latin results! Don’t let Cicero, Augustus, Alexander or Ovid be too far from your reach as you begin the next part of your rise to ‘kleos’ & ‘imperium’!

Congrats to amazing first 9-1 GCSE Latin results today for Ardingly College students: 77% 9-7 grades! Future looks ‘optime’ for IB and A Level Latin!

Virgil Aeneid 9, 433-437: Euryalus rolls over in death, and over his beautiful limbs gore flows, and on his shoulders his neck lies limp: as a crimson flower, cut down by the plough droops as it dies, or poppies with weary neck lower their heads, weighed down by a chance shower.

Poppy similes accompany the deaths of Gorgythion in the Iliad (8.306-8) and Euryalus in the Aeneid (9.433-7). They show the aching tragedy and staggering bravery of people who die in the name of their cause. Their relevance has not diminished in over 2 millennia. #remembrance100

A very equal and engaging debate today against the ultimately winning Rhodes House team. Well done to Joey, Will & Ed who challenged the notion that Western museums should repatriate artefacts

My letter to The Times on the importance of studying history, and my theory as to why student numbers are in decline (with a shout out to Peter Frankopan)

Revd Crosse was honoured in Callover this morning. And boys were told that whatever your ‘frontline’ is you always have support. #RememberanceDay #WeWillRememberThem
