Super proud of our Year 12 Classical Civilisation students who were fabulous on stage this week in the school production of Les Misérables. Niamh as Cosette and Grace as a Revolutionary! They were just wonderful 👏🏻😊

How would you structure a book of myths? In this gorgeous collection of retold myths Charlotte Higgins focuses on female characters and uses the act of weaving to connect the stories. #SundayRead #BookLovers #BookTwitter #ClassicsTwitter #GreekMyth #GreekMythology

Out in Rome for our second day here. The most beautiful weather today. Pantheon now and then on to Piazza Navona site of an ancient Roman Circus

A full day of fabulous places including the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. This evening’s walk was to the Spanish Steps….another well earned sleep awaits. The sun has shone and we have had a good day 🇮🇹😊☀️👌🏻

A stunning amphitheatre at Pozzuoli, complete with underground tunnels and areas for gladiators and animals to await their fate…..

Wow! What a find!! Life was not looking great, the driver was decidedly grumpy, the promised lunch was suboptimal to say the least BUT Cumae more than made up for these slight disappointments! The fabled cave of the the Sybil from Book VI of the Aeneid, heart lifting!! 😊🇮🇹

Day Four and we made it to Pompeii. Torrential downpours and mass buying of umbrellas ensued! But the sun came out, and went in, we marched round and saw so many beautiful sights! The Villa of the Mysteries and the House of the Vettii were stunning #beautysigh

A visit to Herculaneum followed hot on the heels of Pompeii. Here it was all about the details…..the carbonised wood for the second floor joists, the painted ceilings and the ambience of the once seaside resort, the sun warmed us through…..much needed after the downpours!

Right, we have made across a very choppy bay to Capri today! Hurray, we survived. Now for the funicolare up to Capri Town. Rain threatening but holding off so far #villaiovis we are coming for you…

The iconic #Roman Colosseum - or the Amphitheatrum Flavium as it was known, captured at night by one of the #Trimontium Trustees. It was started by the Roman Emperor Vespasian in 72AD and finished by his son, Titus, in 80AD. It could accommodate an audience of between 50-80,000

Made it to the top of the island with half the girls to Tiberius’ palace, ‘Villa Iovis’. It was raining heavily for much of the journey…..suboptimal! Then the most delicious lunch and back by funicolare and ferry to Sorrento for tea and medals!! Another day done, 👌🏻👊🏻

Our last day in Italy. We made it to the top of the crater this morning, the windows of gorgeous views between the clouds, rain and wind were appreciated. It was very much a ‘Roedean hair day’ experience and not for the faint of heart! Luckily we are all made of stern stuff.

The Classics department had the good fortune of taking our Third Form Classicists to the West End production of Hadestown in London last week. The weather gods were smiling and they all enjoyed their walk through St James' Park in the warm May sunshine☀️#hadestown

"What a 'cool' and 'awesome' production! We loved the music, the clever staging, and the interweaving of these two well-known Greek myths. Particular favourite characters were Hades himself and Eurydice. Highly recommended!" - Becky Miller, Classics Teacher #classics
