I've lived in China for 30 years, and I've never seen such a brazenly open and sustained expression of rage against the PRC govt. WeChat is exploding with protest videos and furious vitriol, and civil disobedience is becoming rampant. This is a serious test of CCP governance.

Incredible footage from #China’s #Shanghai, where countless people gathered at a road called “#Urumqi road,” chanting a slogan “Step down, the Communist Party” very loudly.

“Step down CCP”. It’s amazing such straightforward slogans are loudly shouted out, so clearly and proudly. Young people showed no fear, rather there is high spirit and solidarity. This is a historic night. 共产党下台。这样的口号在上海街头被响亮地喊出。年轻人毫无恐惧毫无犹豫。

Status of detained protestors will extend the protests or dampen them— government should release them immediately or face longer term resistance. I doubt that abolishing Zero-COVID is going to happen though.
