Scoop (now free to view): Rishi Sunak’s AI Safety Institute is failing to test the safety of most leading AI models like GPT-5 before they’re released — despite heralding a “landmark” deal to check them for big security threats 👇

Another good day to remember how we ‘couldn’t afford’ the catch-up tuition plan for schoolchildren after the pandemic.

The Gov’t have succeeded in ramming this bad Bill through, despite the devastating arguments of David Anderson and others. Now for the real test - will it make the slightest difference to the number of desperate people risking their lives to get here? I don’t believe it will 1/2

I raised concerns with the Government about regulating AI used for porn. Unfortunately, the Minister's response was utterly useless.
Since then, Nudify and ClothOff have been blocked for UK users, curbing AI sexual abuse. There's still work to do, but this is a great start.

This degree of media attention on parliamentary ping-pong for a Bill is unusual. So important to stress that it is a standard, normal part of the legislative scrutiny process. What is unusual (historically, tho not in recent years) is the Govt's intransigent attitude to amdts.

This is HUGE! Main deepfake sexual abuse website is blocked in the UK

Massive thanks to Prof Clare McGlynn KC (Hon) and all who have worked so hard to get us here ⚡️

Huge news.

<looks for emoji for dominoes>

This is why legislation matters. But we are only here - a few days after the Government announced it - because people like Prof Clare McGlynn KC (Hon) were prepared to campaign so tirelessly for it. It shouldn't have had to be this hard.

'The smartphone figures were based on an Ofcom survey... It defined a smartphone as a handset that allows individuals to easily download apps, view websites and generally go online.'

That's not a smartphone?

We wouldn't even be having this debate if the Government had delivered the Online Safety Act quicker & made it stronger as The Labour Party called for!

This faux ‘moral panic’ is galling when there were (many) opportunities to actually act & make real change and the Gov chose not to.
