My biggest mistake as a young coach? Too much sarcasm and not enough empathy. Took me a long time to learn that coaches who show empathy can inspire athletes to give more effort & increase their confidence and deal with adversity better.

You coach a person, not a sport. Every person has a story and something going on in his or her life, and it effects their actions and behavior. Get to know your people, and you can coach them better!
