The scenes at #UCLA last night were some of the wildest I’ve ever seen on American soil.

Police stood by and watched for hours as literally hundreds of felony assaults took place. It was all captured by dozens of photographers.

Shocking.

In 1968, protests at Columbia were bigger and more disruptive. Yet in 2024, the university responded faster and with more violence. The change is due to the militarization of the police and growth of elite private education into more important site of American capital and power.

Do I wish Biden would publicly disavow Netanyahu? Of course.

Do I wish we would stop sending money/selling weapons to Israel? Absolutely.

Have been getting messages all night from human rights and press freedom advocates in other countries. They are in shock that these kinds of scenes could be unfolding here. I guess at some level they all still believed in this country’s exceptionalism.
