this is incredible, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has gone full YIMBY as the evidence keeps piling up that legalizing denser housing is good for affordability, sustainability, and equity, I expect more and more progressive politicians to fully embrace pro-housing policies

New research from Calvin Thigpen, Kelcie Ralph, PhD, @n_j_klein, & Anne Brown finds that educating the public about induced demand can shift policy preferences away from highway widening and towards improving transit. BUT that effect fades after six months. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Super excited to see this in my inbox from @snaidunl and coauthors. It's a super cool empirical contribution and a nice reminder of the ways conservative political actors arm themselves with the language of economics to shift the policy landscape through the judicial system.

Just an insane decision. And note that this lawsuit is being brought under the California Environmental Quality Act, though everyone, on all sides, knows the issues here aren't environmental. So please, stop telling me how CEQA has already been fixed. sfchronicle.com/politics/artic…

Me: We need fewer cars, less driving & better cities. Strawman: We could never completely ban cars. Anecdoter: How will I get my kid to hockey or get to work from my car-dependent suburb? Tech booster: cars will be electric in blank years anyway… Me again: Listen carefully…

I’ve never heard the socioeconomic status of people who live in downtown high-rise buildings described as poor before 🤔

Hey DDOT DC, when are you putting back the plastic bollards on Lamont and 13th NW, people are blowing through there and I almost got side swiped crossing by someone cutting the corner.

I don’t want to ban cars entirely from urban spaces, I just want to live in a city where cars feel like they need to wave to _pedestrians_ for allowing them to cross the street.

My most annoying quality is that I’m fairly convinced that at least half of the paper tags I see are totally fake. Anyone have stats on this? PoPville
