Arizona is building the first solar canal in the U.S. . Solar-covered canals will generate renewable energy and save water in this notoriously dry area: buff.ly/3wEcF5h We have so many solutions to this crisis. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables

As they should. With all due respect, Mr. Singh doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The tandem of carbon tax and rebate BENEFITS blue collar workers. He wants to take money out of their pockets. #ClimateAction theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

My piece in the Winnipeg Free Press: how Mr. Poilievre plagiarized his election schtick from Australia's Tony Abbott. Abbott called for a Carbon Tax Election. His favorite slogan? Axe the tax. His climate policy? Subsidize the fossil fuel industry. Beware. winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/analys…

Call me crazy, but if I'm in a government that is running a $2 billion deficit, I don't squander $300-plus million of gas tax revenue on a subsidy that benefits the wealthiest the most (and who need it least) thereby increasing income inequality. #mbpoli cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…

It's easy to get discouraged about the lack of action on climate policy. But if you want a reason for optimism, give Mike Hudema a follow. He shows repeatedly that the necessary solutions already exist. As he says, we just need to implement them. #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction

Yet another study that concludes that a #carbontax is effective in reducing emissions. Not the only policy that can do that -- so I look forward to hearing more from parties that would jettison carbon taxation how they'd make foregone GHG reductions.

The Globe gets it: "Oil producers, however, aren’t forced to bear those costs - future generations will be. In the meantime, Suncor et al will be allowed to continue selling oil even as the world quite literally burns down around them." #EndFossilFuels theglobeandmail.com/business/rob-m…

Canadians are on the hook for up to $18.8 billion to subsidize the most profitable industry in history and the carbon tax is taking hits for being unaffordable? Make it make sense. thenarwhal.ca/trans-mountain…

Dear Premier Smith, For future reference, the correct answer is: "This is a conspiracy theory. It isn't true." Stunning. Now Premier Smith is legitimizing the totally off-the-rails chemtrail conspiracy theory? How anti-science is AB gov? This anti-science...👇

Big Oil & Gas are about to dine and dash leaving taxpayers on the hook for a GIANT tab. They don't set aside funds to cleanup of abandoned mines, wells, pipelines. So we'll pay a quarter trillion plus to clean up their foul mess. Insane. #EndFossilFuels theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

Be careful what you vote for. Conservatives, while terrible at building, are really good at tearing things down. Manitobans wish they'd never elected the Pallister Conservatives, who will now spend a generation in the electoral wilderness. Rustad will be as bad or worse. #BCpoli

Premier Wab Kinew⁩ has no business talking bout fiscal constraints on how fast health care can be fixed while sacrificing over $300 million/year with the gas tax holiday. Fixing health care is more important than the gas tax holiday. cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…

Our paper in Science Magazine on global bird extinctions (and associated impacts on phylogenetic and functional diversity) is out! Great thread from Ferran Sayol here summarizing the findings (including great illustrations), and fantastic job from Tom Matthews on leading it!

The Western Biology Western University community has lost a legend. Keith was always generous & friendly to me and I know he’s been an invaluable mentor to 100s who will be missing him dearly. Condolences to the Hobson family and countless scientists who are grieving a tremendous loss ❤️‍🩹

My first thought was that this has to be a parody account. But no, Rustad really wants to take BC back to the Stone Age. The Conservative philosophy in a nutshell can be summarized as: “screw the world, I want my plastic straws.” #BCpoli

This is important work. In Canada, we have active lobbying (=greenwashing) by Big Oil & Gas arguing that natural gas (=methane) is a bridge fuel. It's a bridge to nowhere. It's dirtier than the coal. The future is clean renewables, not more fossil fuels. #FossilFuelPhaseout
