Updating the prevailing notion that organ donors only do it after death. 44% of organ donors are alive & kicking (or surfing like my live donor husband).

Dr. Lady Maria 1/Perhaps one of the most important benefits is to be able to plan for preemptive transplantation, which is associated with superior outcomes compared to transplantation after any time on dialysis. The benefits of preemptive Tx have been under-acknowledged. #ESOTchat

Paternalism as a barrier to #livingdonation deserves a discussion forum in @ESOTcongress #Milan2021. I like @Twitter but these proposals cannot be limited to 280 characters #letstalkaboutkidneydonation #StrongerTogether #ESOTchat

Olympic #Gold medallist becomes a #livingdonor and "realized it was important to demystify live-donor #kidneytransplants and spread awareness about the viability of the procedure".

Hannah Maple presented the BOUnD during the Medawar session #BTS2022. Data clearly show many misconceptions around #unspecified living kidney donation should be removed. This type of donation is invaluable to the success of living donor KTx & esp paired kidney exchange

Why donate to strangers? "After Seren got her new kidney, she was told that I could get off the #livingdonor list...I had a strange experience...I heard a voice telling me 'there is someone else who needs your kidney' and I just felt that I had to stay on the [donor] list."
