Another spectacular Little Tern record. NW89365, ringed as a chick in north Wales on 15 June 2019, was caught by visiting ringers in Guinea-Bissau on 16 November 2019, a movement of 4812 km south. Just the fifth BTO-ringed Little Tern to have been reported from Guinea-Bissau.

At least 60 Little Terns around the colony today - pairs flying about together, birds waving tiny fish & lots of noise! Soon we hope to see scraping, mating & the first nests being attended to. Great news that the Chesil @Little_tern19 colony has eggs: x.com/Little_tern19/…!

The first Little Tern nests were found at Gronant on Sunday. Staff are keeping a close eye on proceedings but really need the help of volunteers. If you would like to get involved head to the beach and speak to a warden. Simple as that! 😀

The warmer weather this morning seemed to have got the ringed plovers going, and we saw a lot of courtship behaviour and a few squabbles!

We are up to five pairs of nesting Ringed Plovers. Two of these were outside the electric fence boundary, thus even more vulnerable than usual. We have made and deployed these cages which protect the nest from aerial predation, foxes & dogs etc. to give them the best head start.

After 21 days of patient sitting on eggs, two ringed plover chicks entered the world at Beadnell this week 🐣 The parents stay close and are very alert to danger; crows, gulls, people and dogs. Good luck out there ringed plover chicks. We are rooting for you! #spaceforshorebirds

Was great being down at Kilcoole last week with BirdWatch Ireland staff getting close looks of adult Little Terns in the hand at the colony where I was once a warden. Studying those rump and tail feather patterns proved very useful for the events that unfolded today!
