Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum seeking children. 4/5

We choose to sit near the front so there are minimal distractions between us and the ‘action’. Theatres will often place people with disabilities at the back of a block of seats - that is not the best place for us so we go ‘undeclared’. 😘

The only time she is not with us is when she is at school. She is 16. She’s not a difficult child to care for. She just needs someone who understands her needs and is vigilant. She’s good at amusing herself and compliant at home. The only aspect which is tricky is feeding her. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ok, let’s see if Twitter/X can still do its thing: I’m looking for positive stories from people who have taken #tamoxifen or #letrozole - preferably examples of few/no/entirely manageable side effects. I don’t need the bad stories, just good ones please. DMs also fine. Thanks!

Gillian Keegan Thank you Gillian Keegan for your support and for listening to the voices of people in the Down syndrome community who have campaigned so hard for the specific health and learning profiles to be better understood and supported. This is a great start.

We are seeing yet more divisive media reports about disabled people and the welfare system. Promoting the idea that life on disability benefits is a choice - lucrative even – is dangerous. It fuels distrust and negative attitudes towards disabled people.

An hour to go until the Westminster Hall debate on Child Trust Funds. An opportunity for the government to help thousands of disabled young people enjoy their savings. Will it be more of the same, or will common sense prevail?

A sad reflection of priorities. 😢 Learning disabilities are at the bottom of the list in an education system which only seems to recognise high academic attainment as successful. The local authorities in which I work are failing so many children and families.

The disadvantaged students conversation needs to move away from schools and towards services targeting poverty; early maternal/post natal care; early baby and toddler care. That’s where the difference can be made.
