Today the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund partner visit traveled to the PNG Highlands to learn about the results of the PBF-supported United Nations in Papua New Guinea Highlands Joint Programme implemented by UNDP Papua New Guinea IOM Papua New Guinea UN Women Papua New Guinea UNFPA Papua New Guinea with many local partners

The United Nations Peacebuilding Fund partner visit to PNG learned about priorities of the Provincial governments of Southern Highlands & Hela, local partners of the United Nations in Papua New Guinea Highlands Joint Programme of UNDP Papua New Guinea IOM Papua New Guinea UNFPA Papua New Guinea UN Women Papua New Guinea

The United Nations Peacebuilding Fund partner visit reached conflict-affected Wabi Valley to see how IOM Papua New Guinea Community Peace & Development Plans prioritised rebuilding of a health post (w/ PBF, provincial & community resources) & hear from women & men about their local peace agreement

The 1600+ PNG Village Courts (VC) are an essential frontline conflict resolution institution. Great to learn about their functioning & how to increase the role of women as magistrates & land mediators from the DoJ’s VC Director. IOM Papua New Guinea helps rebuild destroyed spaces for VCs.

🙏🏻 United Nations in Papua New Guinea Country Team & RC @HowardUNPNG for hosting PBF partner visit. Also to Chief Sec Ivan Pomaleu, PM’s Dept/NEC, for debriefing us. Strong peacebuilding results, joint programming & localization. Big potential to build on PBF support & expand partnerships.
