This week, IOM conducted further workshop training with PNG judicial agencies. The workshops are providing training in detection, investigation and prosecution of human trafficking activity in the country.

Several families have been displaced after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Papua New Guinea on 24 March.

IOM Papua New Guinea is working with authorities to assess and assist the affected population through the deployment of the displacement tracking matrix, shelter, and non-food items.

IOM with funding from USAID/BHA, recently completed a five-day training in CBDRM. The training took place in Mount Hagen and was co-facilitated by IOM and PDCs from Hela, Southern Highlands, Enga, Western Highlands and Jiwaka.

This week, IOM has conducted national consultations on it's legislative review report, 'Trafficking in Persons in PNG'. The consultation was aimed at discussing and validating the findings of the legislative review, and identifying short, medium and long term priorities.

The recently opened Pira 1 health facility, in the Aiya Local Level Government of Southern Highlands Province has now recruited a healthcare professional to be stationed in the local community.

Today, IOM had the honor of hosting His Excellency Zeng Fanhua, Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea. Ambassador Bing, along with embassy staff and Chinese medical professionals stationed in Port Moresby, met with IOM and discussed health activities in the country.

Last week IOM completed an evaluation of its emergency response initiatives in the Highlands region. Thanks to our IOM Regional Office for facilitating deployment of the evaluator. IOM Asia-Pacific
