Yesterday was an important day for our project the 84th Anniversary of Wing Commander Laguna’s loss. It was appropriate to visit the memorial we created to honour his memory at the crash site in Calais Lest we forget The Battle of Britain Memorial Polish Heritage Flight Institute of National Remembrance British Poles

Born this day 1st.July 1916. PO. Franciszek Surma. Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Surma.h… Awarded the KW. VM. He was shot down and killed over France when his Spitfire was bounced by Me109s near Dunkirk. His body was never found.

Lost his life this day 2nd.July 1941. PO. Waclaw Lapkowski. Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Lapkows… Attacked in mid-Channel by fifty Me109’s. He was shot down. His body was washed ashore and he is buried in Lombardsidje Communal Cemetery, Belgium.

July 2nd 1941, Squadron Leader Lapkowski would be the third pilot of P8331 in 6 days to lose his life as he was shot down during a sortie. He is Buried in Belgium. Lest we forget.

Born this day 3rd.July 1918. Sgt. Konrad Antoni Muchowski . Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Muchows… Awarded the MBE. He was one of the Polish airmen who helped form the airforce of Pakistan after 1947.

Lost his life this day 12th.August 1940. Sgt. Josef Kwiecinski. Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Kwiecin… He failed to return from combat off the Isle of Wight in his Hurricane and was reported “Missing’.

Lost his life this day 12th.August 1940. F.Lt. Wilhelm Pankratz. KW. Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Pankrat… He was one of the first Polish airmen to escape to England in 1939. He was reported ‘Missing’ after a combat south of the Isle of Wight.

Lost his life this day 12th.August 1940. FO. Kazimierz Lukaszewicz . KW. Polish One of THE FEW. bbm.org.uk/airmen/Lukasze… He was reported “Missing” following a combat with enemy fighters near Ramsgate. Age 27.
