Franz Reichleitner, Austrian SS officer, served as the commandant of German Sobibór extermination camp from late August 1942 until its liquidation. In that time, some 100,000 Jews were murdered there.

Reichleitner was killed in 1944 by members of Italian resistance.

in 1920, the Battle of Daugavpils began. It was a pivotal clash of Polish-Latvian forces (led by General Rydz-Śmigły) and the Red Army, aiming to turn Latvia into a Soviet republic.

Apolonia Chałupiec, AKA Pola Negri, born in 1897, began her acting career in the theatres of Warsaw. She grew into stardom in the 1930s, after her talent was recognized in Europe and the US.

Pola escaped the horrors of WW2 by moving to America, where she died in 1987.

Jan Zumbach was one of leading Polish WW2 fighter aces. He commanded the 303 Squadron, as well as 3rd and 133rd Polish Fighter Wings. After the war, Zumbach became a smuggler and a mercenary operating in Africa.

Aleksander Prystor, born in 1874, was part of the Polish Legions during WW1 and fought in the Polish-Bolshevik War. In independent Poland, he served as a Prime Minister.

In 1940, he was arrested by the NKVD and died one year later in a prison hospital in Moscow.
