Just saw a tweet saying “Both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated can catch Covid.” A doctor responded: “Both Serena Williams and I can play tennis."

The suggestion that any job is “low skill” is a myth perpetuated by wealthy interests to justify inhumane working conditions, little/no healthcare, and low wages. Plus being a waitress has made me and many others *better* at our jobs than those who’ve never known that life.

Being a POC in this field is a double edge sword because we understand the historical implications of these incidents and can be a potential target by the same people we are researching.

There is no such thing as being “pro-life” while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place. It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.

In Judaism, if you say a prayer over something, then fail to do the requisite action that follows, like blessing bread and not eating it, it’s a bracha levatla - which is a sinful act. If you pray for victims of gun violence but do nothing, it is a sinful act.

All of the work that we do, all of the *scholarship* we produce, means absolutely nothing if we aren't actively advocating for a country free of guns. We don't need platitudes and Instagram infographics. We have to fight for change.

If you think it was "classless" for Beto O'Rourke to confront Governor Abbott at a press conference but don't think it was classless for the Governor to attend a fundraiser last night after the shooting, or to say today that "it could have been worse," well, that's pretty telling.
